前言

Preface

  1. Articles from the “Treatise on ShangHan” cited in this book begin with a capital letter ‘S’, followed by three digits, referring to the article in the Song  Dynasty edition of the “Treatise on ShangHan”. For example, S003 is Article 3 of the Song Dynasty edition. Articles from the “Essentials from the Golden Chamber” cited in this book begin with a letter ‘K’, followed by four digits, the first two of which are the chapter title, and the last two digits refer to the article in the Song Dynasty edition. For example, K2104 is Article 4 of the 21st chapter of the “Treatise on Postpartum Women.””Pulse Diagnosis,” “Pulse Differentiation,”,”What Can and Cannot Be Done,” and the “Treatise on Pulse Classic” begin with the letters ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, and ‘M’, respectively.
  2. The term “Shanghan” used in this book refers to the five works “Treatise on ShangHan,”,”Essentials from the Golden Chamber,””Pulse Diagnosis,” “Pulse Differentiation,” “What Can and Cannot Be Done,”
I have been researching “Shanghan” for nearly thirty years,,due to this long period of time, as my understanding of “Shanghan” deepened, many of the viewpoints in my earlier work became outdated, and therefore many articles have undergone multiple revisions.
“Shanghan” contains over a thousand articles, and many remain unexplained in my work. For example, less than half of the articles in “Essentials from the Golden Chamber”was explained in the chapter “Analysis And Interpretation Of Golden Chamber.”However, most of the articles in “What Can and Cannot Be Done,””Pulse Diagnosis ,” and “Pulse Differentiation” have been fully explained in the chapter”General Explaination Of Ke Bu Ping Bian(Note),” but they have not been revised for over a decade. Future revisions will likely require significant changes.
Note:”Ke Bu Ping Bian” is a collective term for “What Can and Cannot Be Done,””Pulse Diagnosis ,” and “Pulse Differentiation “.
  3. Approximately 90% of the articles in “Treatise on Shanghan” have already been explained in the chapter” Principle of the Treatise on ShangHan.”Most of these articles have been revised multiple times, with the most recent revision date being no more than four years ago. Therefore, readers are advised to read this chapter first.
In the “Taiyang” section of the “Principle of the Treatise on ShangHan”, from S001 to S020, the basic theories of “Shanghan”are explained in detail. It is recommended that readers read these articles first to gain a full understanding of the basic theories of“Shanghan”before reading the other articles.
  4. The articles in “Principle of the Treatise on ShangHan,” “Analysis and Interpretation of Golden Chamber.”and “General Explaination Of Ke Bu Ping Bian ” are stored together with a “Article Record” file within the same folder. This file displays the date the article was last completed. Similarly, the completion date is also displayed under each article.
In summary, the content of this book will be continuously revised. As time passes and the number of revisions increases, the number of areas requiring changes will decrease.
  5. To interpret the text of “ShangHan” , one must have a deep understanding of the text’s pulse diagnosis, pathology, physiology, pharmacology, and related basic theories. Therefore, in addition to”Principle of the Treatise on ShangHan,” “Analysis And Interpretation Of Golden Chamber.”and “General Explaination Of Ke Bu Ping Bian,” this book also includes six chapters: “Shang Han Basic Theory,” “Shang Han Pulse Study,” “Shang Han Pathology,” “Shang Han Pharmacology,” “Shang Han Physiology,” and “Shang Han Illustrated Collection.” The goal is to facilitate easy reference when interpreting the text of “Shang Han.”
  6. The files in this book were originally written in Word as Doc files. Some of these files contained hyperlinks that opened other files for reference. However, files uploaded to the website must be converted to PDF format, thus breaking these hyperlinks. Readers must find the linked files themselves. If you can’t find it, you can download the file first. Clicking the hyperlink in the downloaded PDF file will open a window displaying the link path, which you can use to find the linked file.
  7. I will upload revised files periodically. Clicking the ‘Announcements’ button above will show the file entries and their upload timestamps.
